Puerta Vallerta Parasail October 2007
This is me parasailing during an Olivia cruise stop in Puerta Vallerta. I could see the edge of the world up there. I was engrossed in the silence that encapsulated me in my little moment of bliss...that was, until I laid my eyes on a thin piece of red cloth narrrowly holding together two pieces of frayed rope in a knot that was not tied by a boyscout. This narly piece of fabric was all that connected my tether line to that teeny tiny boat in the lower right-hand corner. Yeah, my life flashed before my eyes.

My Pets: I have five cats and two dogs. I've discovered that I'm more of a dog person than a cat person, though cats can be cuddly and cute, I just find them to be messier, more destructive, and more retaliatory against you when they are mad. My dogs are never angry...always sweet and happy to see me!

My Family: Sally prefers not to be shown on the internet, so you won't find any photos of her here. The rest of my family is in Michigan. I have a younger sister, Tracy, and she still lives in Battle Creek. I will have to find a photo of her from her first trip to Cali last summer and post it. Tracy has two beautiful daughters, Brooke (17) and Kylie (13). I have a brother named Jason who is 30 and estranged from our family. He's got some issues. He also has a lovely son, Tyler. Tyler is about 8 or 9. I have only seen him twice, but he's a sweet little boy. Here's a recent photo:

Tyler Austin

Something tells me that, if he had to choose a cereal to discribe himself, he might pick Lucky Charms. Not sure what the shamrock motif is all about...maybe he's half Irish. He's sure a cute little buggar.

Fun Facts to Know and Share
Current City of Residence: Temecula, CA

Temecula is a beautiful community in Riverside County famous for being Southern California's wine country. The only winery here that might be well-known is Callaway, but there many, many more. My personal favorite is Ponte.

Ponte Winery Temecula California

Ponte has amazing wines, a fantastic gift shop and wonderful outdoor restaurant with a great menu. One of my favorite things to do is dine al fresco at The Smokehouse while sipping a nice glass of Graciela and taking in the views of the rolling vineyards and snow-capped mountains.

Temecula lies in a valley just 22 miles east of the Pacific Ocean. I love that we live equidistant between the O.C. and San Diego, are surrounded by mountains that take less than an hour to drive to, and that we have the ocean and the desert nearby as well. It's a great place to live. I read on wikipedia that Michelle Rodiguez of Blue Crush, The Fast and The Furious, and Lost fame recently purchased a home here. I don't know why more stars don't live here, really. There are gorgeous homes with ample property for those who own horses, for example ;0) I am ready and willing to act as anyone's personal property previewer. I love doing the open house tours on available real estate.

Birthplace: Battle Creek, Michigan (a.k.a. The Cereal City, home of Kelloggs)

Occupation: Clinical Research Associate for small bio-pharma company in San Diego

Zodiac Sign: Virgo (September 13th)

Favorite Celebrity: Ellen...of course, followed by Catherine Deneuve. Catherine caught my eye back in the early 90's when she did the gay-themed vampire flick, The Hunger. I can't begin to tell you the number of times I rewound the love scene with her and Susan Sarandon....

Guilty Pleasures: Spa days (I've got two words for you: Glen Ivy [Hot Springs]), napping in the hammock, curling up on the couch in front of the fire with a good book, a cup of tea, and my dogs, and this damn wiki!

**UPDATE** On April 13th I discovered a new guilty pleasure: Thai Massage! I participated in a 5k Mud Run in San Diego and afterward, I treated myself to a 1.5 hour Thai massage. OMG! This is a SERIOUS massage. Not for the feint at heart.

Favorite Cocktail: I prefer sauvignon blanc wine, but I'm partial to margarita's, too.

My Heros: Ellen, first and foremost. What an inspiration she is. Second, my friend Carolyn Nordstrom, humanitarian and animal lover extraorindaire; while she passed away in 2005, she was a huge influence in my life and helped me to accept me for who I am.

Current Reads: Eckhart Tolle's "A New Earth." I love his philosophies and his words really speak to me. I'm trying to read Love in the Time of Cholera but it's a bit slow-maybe I will just have to to see the movie on this one. I loved the Kite Runner. One of my all-time favorites is The Pillar's of the Earth by Ken Follett.

Favorite TV Programs: I'm not a big fan of the boob tube, I have to admit. I watch Ellen faithfully, but I can take or leave almost all of the rest of it. I was seriously hooked on Heros until the writer's strike, but I have not heard anything from that series in months. I'm about to re-enter the world of Henry the VIII, and will likely immerse myself in The Tudor's second season because I do enjoy history.

My partner Sally and I have been following The L Word since it's beginnings, but I have to say that I am completely dismayed over Hollywood's slant on the modern lesbian. Maybe Sal and I are just too "real" but unless you live in L.A. or WeHo, I don't see how any gay woman can really relate to the L Word. This show is all about screwing around and living a guilt-free, super-sexed, high drama soap opera. I'm afraid that most of us are too engrossed in our less than Hollyweird lives to be concerned with the kind of laissez faire, "Friends" lifestyle this show thinks we are all involved in. Not every woman cheats on her partner at the slightest hint of relationship trouble; we are not all willing to throw away what we have worked hard for years to build over some skinny 20-something baby dyke; not all gay women are built like Parisian runway models with serious coke addictions, and finally, not every lesbian in the world is really just craving a romp in the hay with a hunk of man meat. What the #$!* is up with this made by women for women borderline skin flick? Please, my intelligence is insulted enough every day without the likes of Eileen Chaiken throwing this pseudo-lesbo drama wanna be hype down my throat. The only time you will find that many gorgeous lesbians congregating in one place is during the High Desert spring love fest in Palm Springs more commonly refered to as the Dinah Shore. If I'm wrong, I'll be happy to have someone correct me :o) I guess I'd just like to see a show that portrays real women in their real lives. Does anyone remember that 80's show, "Thirtysomething?" Well, it was a great show about people with fairly normal lives but they had a captive audience every week.

Hobbies: My favorite hobby is making jewelry, hands down. I'm one of those people that is equally right-left brained,so I have a very analytical mind, but I need constant creative outlets. I am also an avid photographer, a skill that lends itself well to my website as I photograph all of my jewelry myself. My preference is to be behind the lens rather than in front of it.

Making jewelry allows me to immerse myself in color and textures and create beautiful wearable art. A few years ago we decided to make it a part-time business and we incorporated and all that good stuff. But, once we moved to Temecula and became "Super Commuters" it was too difficult to maintain the business. I spend an average of three hours a day in the car getting to and from the office, so, now I just make jewelery for fun and to relax. I usually fit it in on weekends when I am not busy doing yard work or housekeeping; with 7 pets, my work is usually cut out for me on my days off! I am currently working on a spring collection and plan to start selling again in May to my friends. I have a website but I don't sell things from it very often so it is more for the purpose of viewing my creations: www.twochixdesign.com

Here are are few of my designs:

Favorite Movies: American Beauty is probably one of my all time favorites, but I really LOVE movies. What Dreams May Come was a visual feast but very emotionally and spiritually demanding. The Shawshank Redemption and Slingblade were wonderfully written and acted films; I'm partial to Mr. Wrong, The Love Letter, Finding Nemo, and Ed TV for obvious reasons...and lets not forget Goodbye Lover, too. If These Walls Could Talk 2 is another personal favorite....Ellen and Sharon rocked their segment.
