How has Ellen inspired you?
I l-o-v-e ellen! I've watched every season of her show. I'm only 17 now, I was too young to watch her sitcom when it aired but i've recently bought all the seasons! This past march i was in the audience for her St. Patricks day episode! The experience only confirmed my knowledge of how amazing, kind, generous, and down-to-earth Ellen is. I've read many books on Ellen, and every book she's written. I literally am obessed. She has inspired me in so many ways! She is such a strong women, she has gone through so much in her life to get to the place she is now. She vowed to spread joy and laughter to all, even those who once brought her down (when she told the public she was gay). Ellen has done so much for the gay community. The episode she talked about Larry King's tradegic death really effected me. I've tried to make everyone i know aware of her message about gay people being portrayed negitivly in the media etc. I even wrote a personal essay on it for grade 12 english! Ellen's donations to many charities has also inspired me. I donate $15 of every pay check to the Make it Right foundations, and through my company GAP they match easch donation (that's $30 every 2 weeks!). My dream is to meet my hero, Ellen, in person. After seeing what she has accomplished in her life, I want to have the same fulfillment she must have going to bed every night knowing all the joy the brings into people lives everyday, and even the chance to change someone’s life altogether. For Ellen one of those lives she changed was mine.

I am another person who's life has been profoundly affected by this one, very special woman. She literally saved my life, or helped saved it after a very tragic event topped off too many tragic events and I broke down. I lost my home, my business at that time, my car, my family (by death) and somehow I ended up watching the "interpretive dance" routine Ellen did. I watched it over and over. It was cathartic. Our relationship, although she's not aware of it, continues to mold and shape me in a way that my parents were able to do. She sets the bar for me in loving others and convicts me every day of ways and defects that I can change in myself. When I grow up (I'm 45) I want to be just like her. I used to watch her wayyyy back in the day when she was doing standup, but she was only hysterical then and I related to her rambling ways. It wasn't until I was truly ready to recieve the special gift that is Ellen DeGeneres in her completeness, that she became the role model I needed and still need in my life. She's a humble person, so I'm sure she would just say pshaw oh dear..back at you. But, she IS a tremendous person. My son came out to me when he was sixteen, but I had watched him go through a hell on earth that I wouldn't wish on anyone because he was "different" I knew he was just Timmy, the same as when he was a little boy, he hadn't changed, he hadn't made some crazy decision, he was just my wonderful son. He loves Ellen in a way I can't imagine, she's his hero. She paved the way for him and his peers and opened doors that were seemingly closed to gay persons forever. Her bravery eased the pain and suffering of my only child. If I could have one wish, I change my mind, I'd wish that all hate would cease throughout the world and that each person would consider themselves equal or lesser than every other person. I love you and thank you Ellen, from the bottom of my heart.
Do you find this valuable?
